Candidates for Governor:
Bruce Rauner (R)
Pat Quinn (D)
Jim Oberweis (R)
Bruce Rauner is an American businessman who is the chairman of R8 Capital Partners, and former chairman of the private equity firm GTCR, based in Chicago. He is the Republican nominee for governor of Illinois.
Patrick Joseph "Pat" Quinn III (born December 16, 1948) is an American politician who is the 41st and current Governor of Illinois. A member of the Democratic Party, Quinn has served as Governor since 2009.
Born in Hinsdale, Illinois, Quinn is the graduate of Northwestern University School of Law. Quinn began his career as a tax attorney in private practice before working as an aide to former Illinois Governor Dan Walker. He was elected to one term as a commissioner on the Cook County Board of Tax Appeals, serving from 1982 to 1986; later serving as revenue director in the administration of Chicago Mayor Harold Washington.
After a failed campaign for State Treasurer in 1986, Quinn again ran for Treasurer of Illinois in 1990, serving one term from 1991 to 1995. In Illinois's 2002 gubernatorial election, Quinn was picked as the running mate of then Representative Rod Blagojevich. He was sworn into office as Lieutenant Governor of Illinois in 2003. Quinn assumed the governorship on January 29, 2009, after Governor Blagojevich, was impeached and removed from office on corruption charges.
Quinn was elected to a full term in office in the Illinois's 2010 gubernatorial election, defeating Republican State Senator Bill Brady with 46% of the vote. As governor he faced severe short-term budget shortfalls and a long-term state debt, all in the context of the worst national economic slump since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Quinn has pushed for spending cuts and tax increases, while trying to raise ethical standards, protect public-sector labor unions, and maintain environmental standards.
James D. "Jim" Oberweis (born June 10, 1946) is an American businessman, investment manager and politician. He is a member of the Illinois Senate, representing the 25th district since January 2013. He is the owner of Oberweis Dairy, in North Aurora (near Chicago). Oberweis has been a candidate for Governor of Illinois, U.S. Senator, and U.S. Representative.
