HIS POINT: SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN! – submitted by J. Sangregorio

You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well, SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN! Oh, there’s MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!

OUR COUNTERPOINT: By N. Oppenheimer.

Resolved: No US military personnel may be sent into combat without a Congressional Declaration of War

Point-CounterPoint Discussion:

HIS POINT: Article I, Section 8(11) of the US Constitution allows only to Congress the power to declare war. This power is not extended to the executive branch, judicial branch, or individual or several states. The power to declare war is arguably the most important power granted to any federal branch in any part of the Constitution.

Why is it that we allow presidents to engage in seemingly open-ended, optional conflicts?

HER POINT: Very recently former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani appeared on Fox News after speaking at the 21 Club. During his remarks at the Club, he questioned whether President Obama “loves America.”  “He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country," Giuliani added.

It appears that Giuliani is hate-mongering and implying that Obama is not a true American. Evidence would indicate that Obama loves the American people with the creation and implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the improvement in the American economy (reduced unemployment, improved housing market, improved auto-industry, etc.) Does Giuliani need to resort to innuendo to attack the President? It is still permissible in our country to disagree with the President and his policies without questioning his love of country or his patriotism. This behavior is despicable.
